Sony hat damit begonnen Android 5.1 Lollipop für Mobilgeräte der Xperia Z2 und der Xperia Z3 Reihe auszuliefern. Die Smartphone-Modelle Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact und Xperia Z Ultra sollen als nächstes in den kommenden Wochen mit dem entsprechenden Firmware-Update versorgt werden.Ab heute beginnt Sony damit, Andorid 5.1 für das Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2 und das Xperia Z2 Tablet bereitzustellen. Wie es häufig bei der Verteilung von neuen Android-Versionen der Fall ist, lässt sich leider noch nicht genau sagen in welchem Land das Update zu was für einem genauen Termin für Nutzer zum Download verfügbar sein wird. Die Auslieferung erfolgt in mehreren nach Region und Mobilfunkbetreiber gestaffelten Wellen.

Mit der neuen Firmware, die auch Android 5.1 enthält, bringt Sony eine Reihe neuer Features und Verbesserungen auf seine Smartphones und Tablets. Zu diesen Neuerungen gehören unter anderem Feintuning für die Kamera, erweiterte Enterprise-Funktionen, durch die sich die Geräte besser für den Unternehmenseinsatz eigenen sollen, weitere Anpassungsmöglichkeiten für die von Sony modifizierte Android-Benutzeroberfläche sowie eine verbesserte Zusammenarbeit der Sony-Smartphones mit Wearable-Geräten wie Smartwatches.Google hat in Android 5.1 in erster Line Bugfixes implementiert, aber es gibt auch ein paar kleinere Anpassung an der Benutzeroberfläche, die beispielsweise den schnellen Wechsel zwischen WLAN-Netzen oder die Verbindung zu Bluetooth-Geräten einfacher machen sollen, und neue Sicherheitsfeatures.

Nach den oben genannten Geräten will Sony das Xperia T2 Ultra und das Xperia C3 gefolgt von der Xperia Z Serie und dem Xperia M2 sowie dem Xperia M2 Aqua mit Android 5.1versorgen.Diversen Leaks nach wird Samsung im August gleich zwei neue Smartphones mit besonders großem Display vorstellen. Neben dem gespannt erwarteten Phablet Galaxy Note 5 soll darunter eine weitere Modellvariante des Galaxy S6 namens S6 Edge Plus sein. Die schon mehrfach für akkurate Leaks verantwortliche Webseite NowhereElse hat nun Bilder veröffentlicht, die eben dieses S6 Edge Plus im direkten Größenvergleich mit dem normalen Galaxy S6 Edge zeigen sollen. Ein Screenshot des AnTuTu-Benchmarks soll außerdem technische Daten des Geräts bestätigen.

Wie es die bislang durchgesickerten Informationen bereits andeuteten, sieht das Galaxy S6 Edge Plus dem S6 Edge sehr ähnlich. Nur die Gehäusedimensionen des kommenden Smartphones weichen aufgrund des vermutlich 5,5 bis 5,7 Zoll großen Displays vom kleineren, seit April 2015 erhältlichen Modell ab, das Mikrofon sitzt offenbar an einer anderen Stelle und der Infrarotsensor wurde eventuell ganz gestrichen. Bezüglich der technischen Daten des Galaxy S6 Edge Plus liefert der AnTuTu-Benchmark keine Überraschungen. Das Phablet scheint also in der Form auf den Markt zu kommen, wie es die Gerüchte zuletzt nahe legten. Das heißt, es ist ein Display mit Quad-HD-Auflösung (2560 x 1440 Pixel) verbaut und es wird durch denselben 64-Bit-fähigen Octa-Core-Prozessor Exynos 7420 angetrieben, der auch im Galaxy S6 und S6 Edge zum Einsatz kommt und der eine Mali T760 GPU integriert. Davon abgesehen wird könnte das Phablet den Gerüchten nach auch in einer zweiten Modellvariante mit Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Chipsatz auf den Markt kommen und soll dieselbe Kameratechnik wie das Galaxy S6, also eine 16 Megapixel Hauptkamera und eine 5-Megapixel-Frontkamera, plus 32 Gigabyte internen Flash-Speicher und einen 3700-mAh-Akku bieten.

Bis es zu einer offiziellen Vorstellung des Galaxy S6 Edge sollten all die derzeit zirkulierenden Infos natürlich noch mit einer gewissen Portion Skepsis bewertet werden. Aber mittlerweile erscheint uns das Bild des Phablets, das die Gerüchteküche zeichnet, doch recht komplett und glaubwürdig. Endgültige Klarheit darüber mit welchen Premium-Phablets Samsung gegen Apples neue iPhone-Generation in diesem Herbst antreten will, werden wir aller Voraussicht nach in einigen Wochen erhalten.Microsoft wird am 1. August 2015 damit beginnen, Windows 10 für Unternehmen und Bildungseinrichtungen bereitzustellen. Ab diesem Datum können Volumenlizenzkunden Windows 10 Enterprise oder Windows 10 Education als Download über das sogenannte Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) beziehen. Als die wichtigsten Merkmale des neuen Betriebssystems, die Unternehmen ansprechen sollen, führt Microsoft die fortschrittlichen Sicherheitsfunktionen, die einheitliche Plattform für diverse Geräteklassen sowie die flexiblen Modellen im Bereich der IT-Verwaltung auf. Außerdem für den Enterprisemarkt interessant sein sollen der neu geschaffene Business App Store sowie die Möglichkeiten, welche die Entwicklung und Bereitstellung von Universal Apps mit sich bringt.

Die beiden für Unternehmen ausgelegten Desktop-Editionen von Windows 10 sind weitgehend identisch. Windows 10 Enterprise bietet laut Microsoft den größten Funktionsumfang was die flexible Verwaltung des Betriebssystems, unterschiedlicher Geräte und von Anwendungen betrifft. Windows Update for Business erlaubt es Unternehmen beispielsweise, die Installation von Windows Updates für einen bestimmten Zeitpunkt zu planen beziehungsweise sie erst dann einzuspielen, wenn der betriebliche Alltag dies zulässt. Darüber hinaus können Unternehmenskunden vom sogenannten „Long Term Servicing Branch" profitieren, der es gestattet, alle Security-Updates zu erhalten, aber neue Funktionen nur auf ausdrückliche Anforderung. Beispielsweise hinsichtlich Gerätschaften im medizinischen Umfeld ist der Long Term Servicing Branch also relevant. Windows 10 Education basiert auf Windows 10 Enterprise, ist aber eine spezielle Edition für Lehrer, Studenten und Mitarbeiter in Bildungseinrichtungen.

Neben Windows 10 Enterprise und Education wird Microsoft später in diesem Jahr noch weitere Editionen seines neuen Betriebssystems mit Unternehmensfokus auf den Markt bringen. Dazu gehören Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise für Smartphones und kleine Tablets sowie Windows 10 IoT Core für Industriegeräte wie Geldautomaten, POS-Handhelds oder Industrieroboter. Das Betriebssystem wird stetig Updates erhalten und kommt mit neuen Sicherheitsfeatures wie der integrierten Möglichkeit einer Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung sowie Windows Hello, das dank Identifikation per Fingerabdruck oder Gesichts- und Iriserkennung die sichere Anmeldung an einem Gerät gewährleistet. Um den Schutz vor Datenverlusten zu erhöhen, hat Microsoft außerdem Funktionen für Data Lost Prevention implementiert.

Besonders hohe Erwartungen setzt Microsoft sowohl im Endkunden- als auch Unternehmenssektor an die Universal Apps und den dazugehörigen Store. Die Konzept hinter den Universal Apps sieht vor, dass Entwickler für Windows 10 zukünftig nur noch eine Anwendung erstellen, die dann auf allen Windows Geräten lauffähig ist. Für Unternehmen wird es zudem einen separaten sogenannten Business Store geben, der sich automatisch an die Bildschirmgröße des verwendeten Geräts anpasst, Vorschläge aufgrund des Nutzerverhaltens macht, umfangreiche Zahlungsmöglichkeiten bietet und ein einheitliches Benutzererlebnis garantiert.Medion wird am 30. Juli 2015 nicht nur bei Aldi Süd ein Notebook mit Windows 10 anbieten, sondern auch bei Aldi Nord. Es handelt dabei auch um eine Modellvariante des 15,6 Zoll-Geräts Akoya E6416, die allerdings im Norden mit etwas schlechter Ausstattung aufwarten wird als die Ausführung, die es im Süden geben wird. Besonders preisbewusste Kunden auf der Suche nach einem neuen Notebook dürfte das aber ganz gelegen kommen, da das Akoya E6416 bei Aldi Nord aus diesem Grund auch nur 399 statt 499 Euro kostet.

Das Medion Akoya E6416, das in der nächsten Woche bereits einen Tag nach dem weltweiten Marktstart von Windows 10 mit vorinstalliertem Windows 10 Home bei Aldi Nord zu bekommen sein wird, trägt die Modellnummer MD 99580. Im direkten Vergleich mit dem bei Aldi Süd erscheinenden MD 99610 müssen Abstiche in Sachen Prozessor und Display gemacht werden. Das Akoya E6416 MD 99580 ist anstelle eines 15,6 Zoll großen Full HD-Displays mit einem HD-Panel (1366 x 768 Pixel) sowie statt des Intel Core i5-5200U Prozessors mit dem Intel Core i3-5010U (Broadwell-Familie) ausgestattet. Weitere Unterscheidungsmerkmale zwischen den beiden Modellvarianten sind der etwas kleinere Akku und die mit 500 Gigabyte Speicherkapazität nur halb so große Festplatte.

Abgesehen von den genannten Komponenten sind die Ausstattungsdetails der beiden Notebooks aber identisch. Das Akoya E6416 MD 99580 bringt also ebenfalls 2,3 Kilogramm auf die Waage und verfügt über 4 Gigabyte Arbeitsspeicher, einen Multistandard-DVD-/CD-Brenner, High-Definition-Audio mit 2 Lautsprechern, eine HD-Webcam und ein integriertes Mikrofon, ein Touchpad mit Gestensteuerung und einen Multikartenleser. Außerdem besitzen die Geräte externe Anschlüsse für Gigabit-Ethernet, 2x USB 3.0 und 2 x USB 2.0, HDMI-out sowVGA und unterstützen WLAN nach 802.11ac sowie Bluetooth 4.0. Software-seitig wird neben Windows 10 Home unter anderem eine kostenlose Testversion von Office 365 und die Medion Home Cinema Suite, die PowerDirector, Power2Go PowerDVD, PhotoDirector und YouCam mit den Notebooks geliefert.Das Medion Akoya E6416 MD 99580 wird am Donnerstag, den 30. Die Display-Auflösung soll aber anders als beispielsweise noch beim P8max nicht 1920 x 1080 Pixel, sondern 2560 x 1440 Pixel (QHD) betragen. Diese Display-Eigenschaften soll auch das für Google produzierte Nexus-Smartphone mitbringen. Des Weiteren könnte das Mate 8 als erstes Huawei-Gerät mit dem vom Hersteller selbst entwickelten Kirin 950 Chipsatz ausgestattet sein und Dual-SIM-Unterstützung, einen Fingerabdrucksensor, eine 20,7-Megapixel-Hauptkamera sowie eine 8-Megapixel-Frontkamera bieten. Bezüglich RAM- und Speicher-Ausstattung des kommenden Huawei-Riesen ist sich die Gerüchteküche noch nicht ganz schlüssig. Wahrscheinlich ist aber, dass es sowohl eine Modellvariante mit 3 Gigabyte RAM und 32 Gigabyte internen eMMC-Speicher als auch eine mit 4 Gigabyte RAM und 64 Gigabyte eMMC-Speicher geben wird. Die bisherigen Berichte über die Spezifikationen des von Huawei produzierte Nexus-Smartphones decken sich weitgehend mit den genannten technischen Daten für das Mate 8. Abweichend davon wird lediglich vermutet, dass das Nexus-Gerät von einem Qualcomm-Prozessor, eventuell dem brandneuen Snapdragon 820, angetrieben werden könnte.

Wie der Teaser von Huawei verrät, müssen wir bezüglich offizieller Herstellerinformationen nur noch ein paar wenige Wochen warten. Zur IFA 2015 werden die Chinesen dann höchstwahrscheinlich den Schleier über dem Mate 8 lüften.Microsoft hat die minimalen Systemvoraussetzungen für Windows 10 Mobile bekanntgegeben. Diese Informationen gewähren einen kleinen Ausblick auf das was das Unternehmen für seine Nutzer und Hardware-Partner in nicht allzu ferner Zukunft geplant hat.Die minimalen Systemvoraussetzungen sind grundlegende Hardware-Komponenten und Funktionen, die mindestens bei der Entwicklung eines Windows-Smartphones zum Einsatz kommen müssen und für die Windows 10 Mobile noch die nötigen Optimierungen mitbringt. Die von Microsoft publizierte Liste wartet allerdings kaum mit Überraschungen auf.

Das vielleicht interessanteste Detail ist, dass das im Herbst 2015 erwartete Windows 10 Mobile scheinbar weniger Anforderungen an die Hardware-Ausstattung stellt wie es Windows Phone 8.1 tut. Dies darf als klares Signal dafür verstanden werden, dass Microsoft zwar gewillt ist, neue High-End-Smartphones auf den Markt zu bringen, aber in Redmond zugleich weiterhin die Hoffnung besteht, durch sehr günstige Windows-Phones Marktanteile von der in diesem Segment so dominanten Android-Plattform abgraben zu können.Die günstigsten Smartphones mit Windows 10 Mobile müssen mindestens ein Display mit WVGA-(800 x 480 Pixel)-Auflösung, 512 Megabyte RAM, 4 Gigabyte internen Flash-Speicher, eine VGA-Kamera (640 x 480 Pixel) und einen Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 Prozessor mitbringen. Hersteller dürfen auf eine Front-Kamera und einen Accelerometer genauso verzichten wie auf ein Bluetooth-Modul. Wie oben angedeutet, sind einige dieser Punkte etwas kurios, da Windows Phone 8/8.1 beispielsweise noch mindestens eine 2-Megapixel-Kamera, Bluetooth und einen Accelerometer zwingend voraussetzte.

Für die meisten Technikbegeisterten, die mit einem neuen Smartphone mit Windows 10 Mobile liebäugeln, dürfte die minimalen Systemanforderungen der Plattform aber ohnehin keine Rolle spielen. Diese Verbrauchergruppe wartet seit längerem auf die offizielle Ankündigung neuer Flaggschiff-Modelle der Lumia-Familie von Microsoft. Aktuellen Gerüchten nach soll das Warten im Spätherbst dieses Jahres ein Ende haben. Dann nämlich, wenn das Unternehmen das Lumia 950 und das Lumia 950 XL offiziell enthüllen könnte.Microsofts Marketingabteilung hat am vergangenen Wochenende wie berichtet den 10-Tage-Countdown bis zum Launch von Windows 10 mit der Video-Serie „10 reasons to upgrade" (zu Deutsch: 10 Gründe für den Umstieg) gestartet. An jedem Tag bis zum 29. Juli veröffentlicht das Unternehmen daher ein neues Video, das einen dieser Gründe näher bringt. Nachdem das erste Video die Message überbrachte, Windows 10 biete ein vertrautes Benutzerinterface, das das Beste aus Windows 7 und Windows 8 in sich vereine, fokussierten sich die am Montag und Dienstag erschienen Videos sowohl auf den digitale Sprachassistenten Cortana als auch auf den neuen Browser Microsoft Edge.

Cortana in Windows 10 wird von Microsoft als der erste wirklich persönliche digitale Assistent vermarktet. Die Software kann in dem neuen Betriebssystem genutzt werden, um sich beispielsweise an bestimmte Ereignisse erinnern zu lassen, oder aber auch nur um das Wetter oder aktuelle Nachrichten abzufragen. Darüber hinaus weist Microsoft in dem Video schon mal darauf hin, dass Cortana in naher Zukunft auch auf Android- und iOS-Geräten als App zur Verfügung stehen wird. Was den neuen Browser Edge betrifft, so wird dieser der Standard-Browser von Windows 10 auf PCs, Tablets und auch auf Smartphones sein. Edge bietet als derzeit einziger Browser auf dem Markt direkte Cortana-Integration, um noch mehr Informationen, noch schneller aufzuspüren, und die Möglichkeit, via Toucheingabe beziehungsweise Digitalisierstift bestimmte Bereiche einer Webseite zu markieren oder mit Kommentaren zu versehen und dies dann mit Freunden oder Kollegen zu teilen. Außerdem hat Microsoft den Browser auf Geschwindigkeit getrimmt und eine sogenannte Lese-Liste implementiert, die das Speicher von interessanten Artikeln für das spätere Lesen möglich macht. Damit das Lesen auch wirklich Spaß mach bietet Edge auch einen sogenannten Lesemodus, der den Inhalt eines Artikels in einem lesefreundlichen Layout darstellt.

Microsoft wird am 29. Juli 2015 den Startschuss für die auf den Endverbrauchermarkt zugeschnittenen Desktop-Editionen von Windows 10 geben. Die Editionen von Windows 10 für Unternehmen folgen am 01. August. Windows 10 Mobile für Smartphone soll erst später im Herbst dieses Jahres erscheinen. Einen exakten Termin gibt es diesbezüglich noch nicht.Nachdem in der vergangenen Woche ein chinesisches Blog erstmals behauptete, Microsoft werde seine beiden seit Monaten durch die Gerüchteküche schwirrenden Windows 10 Premium-Smartphones mit den Bezeichnungen Lumia 950 und Lumia 950 XL vermarkten, berichtet nun ItHome unter Berufung auf eine eigene Quelle exakt dasselbe. Wie WMPoweruser erläutert, geht die asiatische Publikation von einem Marktstart der Mobilgräte im November aus.Nicht Lumia 940 und Lumia 940 XL, sondern Lumia 950 und Lumia 950 XL sollen die neuen High-End-Lumias von Microsoft heißen, wenn es nach den aktuellsten Infos aus der Gerüchteküche geht. Es wird vermutet, dass Microsoft durch die Entscheidung, von der Lumia-930- gleich zur Lumia-950-Generation zu springen, den großen technologischen Fortschritt verdeutlichen möchte, der zwischen den beiden Smartphone-Reihen liegt. Für den Softwareriesen könnten die beiden kommenden Lumia-Flaggschiffe zudem eine zentrale Rolle bei der Vermarktung von Windows 10 Mobile einnehmen. Wenn es durch sie gelingen würde, die neue Windows Phone ersetzende Plattform erfolgreich am Markt einzuführen, könnte dies dem bislang deutlich hinter Apples und Googles Angeboten hinterher hinkenden Mobil-Ökosystem Microsofts einen dringend benötigten neuen Schwung geben.

Die beiden Geräte - auch unter ihren Codenamen Talkman und Cityman bekannt - sollen durch ein edles Gehäuse mit Metallrahmen, Unterstützung für das von Microsoft groß beworbene, brandneue Continuum-Feature sowie einem USB Typ-C Anschluss aufwarten. Anders als die zuletzt kursierenden Berichte bescheinigt ItHome außerdem sowohl dem Lumia 950 als auch dem Lumia 950 XL eine Display-Auflösung von 2560 x 1440 Pixel. Davon abgesehen soll nur das Lumia 950 XL mit einem Dreifach-LED-Blitz ausgestattet sein.Die weiteren Angaben von ItHome decken sich dann aber wieder exakt mit dem, was wir schon vorher von den zwei Lumias gehört haben. Das Lumia 950 soll einen 5,2 Zoll, das Lumia 950 XL einen 5,7 Zoll großen Bildschirm besitzen, beide sollen mit 3 Gigabyte RAM und 32 Gigabyte internem Flash-Speicher daherkommen und außerdem eine 20-Megapixel-PureView-Kamera sowie eine 5-Megapixel-Frontkamera bieten. Während das größere der neuen Microsoft-Smartphones offenbar von dem Octa-Core-Prozessor Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 angetrieben wird, steckt im Gehäuse des kleineren wohl der Hexa-Core-Chipsatz Qualcomm Snapdragon 808.

Es wird erwartet, dass Microsoft die offizielle Vorstellung des Lumia 950 und des Lumia 950 XL mit Windows 10 Mobile im kommenden Oktober vornehmen wird. Die Smartphones würden somit vermutlich im November im Handel erhältlich sein.Mit dem 300-US-Dollar-Smartphone OnePlus One konnte der chinesische Hersteller OnePlus im vergangenen Jahr einen echten Überraschungshit landen. In diesem Jahr möchte das Unternehmen mit dem neuen OnePlus 2, das am 27. Juli offiziell vorgestellt werden wird, an diesen Erfolg anknüpfen. Nun sind allerdings bereits vor der anstehenden Präsentation dank der chinesischen Zulassungsbehörde TENAA erste semi-offizielle Bilder des Smartphones enthüllt worden. Den Fotos der TENAA nach sieht das OnePlus 2 dem OnePlus One sehr ähnlich. Auffälligste äußerlich erkennbare Neuerung des diesjährigen OnePlus-Flaggschiffs ist lediglich der physikalische Home-Button. Dieser wurde mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit deshalb hinzugefügt, da das OnePlus 2 laut Herstellerangaben über einen Fingerabdrucksensor verfügen wird, der sogar besser funktionieren soll als Touch ID im Apple iPhone 6 und iPhone 6 Plus.

Wahrscheinlich ist aber, dass es sowohl eine Modellvariante mit 3 Gigabyte RAM und 32 Gigabyte internen eMMC-Speicher als auch eine mit 4 Gigabyte RAM und 64 Gigabyte eMMC-Speicher geben wird. Die bisherigen Berichte über die Spezifikationen des von Huawei produzierte Nexus-Smartphones decken sich weitgehend mit den genannten technischen Daten für das Mate 8. Abweichend davon wird lediglich vermutet, dass das Nexus-Gerät von einem Qualcomm-Prozessor, eventuell dem brandneuen Snapdragon 820, angetrieben werden könnte.

Wie der Teaser von Huawei verrät, müssen wir bezüglich offizieller Herstellerinformationen nur noch ein paar wenige Wochen warten. Zur IFA 2015 werden die Chinesen dann höchstwahrscheinlich den Schleier über dem Mate 8 lüften.Microsoft hat die minimalen Systemvoraussetzungen für Windows 10 Mobile bekanntgegeben. Diese Informationen gewähren einen kleinen Ausblick auf das was das Unternehmen für seine Nutzer und Hardware-Partner in nicht allzu ferner Zukunft geplant hat.Die minimalen Systemvoraussetzungen sind grundlegende Hardware-Komponenten und Funktionen, die mindestens bei der Entwicklung eines Windows-Smartphones zum Einsatz kommen müssen und für die Windows 10 Mobile noch die nötigen Optimierungen mitbringt. Die von Microsoft publizierte Liste wartet allerdings kaum mit Überraschungen auf.

Dies darf als klares Signal dafür verstanden werden, dass Microsoft zwar gewillt ist, neue High-End-Smartphones auf den Markt zu bringen, aber in Redmond zugleich weiterhin die Hoffnung besteht, durch sehr günstige Windows-Phones Marktanteile von der in diesem Segment so dominanten Android-Plattform abgraben zu können.Die günstigsten Smartphones mit Windows 10 Mobile müssen mindestens ein Display mit WVGA-(800 x 480 Pixel)-Auflösung, 512 Megabyte RAM, 4 Gigabyte internen Flash-Speicher, eine VGA-Kamera (640 x 480 Pixel) und einen Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 Prozessor mitbringen. Hersteller dürfen auf eine Front-Kamera und einen Accelerometer genauso verzichten wie auf ein Bluetooth-Modul. Wie oben angedeutet, sind einige dieser Punkte etwas kurios, da Windows Phone 8/8.1 beispielsweise noch mindestens eine 2-Megapixel-Kamera, Bluetooth und einen Accelerometer zwingend voraussetzte.

Für die meisten Technikbegeisterten, die mit einem neuen Smartphone mit Windows 10 Mobile liebäugeln, dürfte die minimalen Systemanforderungen der Plattform aber ohnehin keine Rolle spielen. Diese Verbrauchergruppe wartet seit längerem auf die offizielle Ankündigung neuer Flaggschiff-Modelle der Lumia-Familie von Microsoft. Aktuellen Gerüchten nach soll das Warten im Spätherbst dieses Jahres ein Ende haben. Dann nämlich, wenn das Unternehmen das Lumia 950 und das Lumia 950 XL offiziell enthüllen könnte.Microsofts Marketingabteilung hat am vergangenen Wochenende wie berichtet den 10-Tage-Countdown bis zum Launch von Windows 10 mit der Video-Serie „10 reasons to upgrade" (zu Deutsch: 10 Gründe für den Umstieg) gestartet. An jedem Tag bis zum 29. Juli veröffentlicht das Unternehmen daher ein neues Video, das einen dieser Gründe näher bringt. Nachdem das erste Video die Message überbrachte, Windows 10 biete ein vertrautes Benutzerinterface, das das Beste aus Windows 7 und Windows 8 in sich vereine, fokussierten sich die am Montag und Dienstag erschienen Videos sowohl auf den digitale Sprachassistenten Cortana als auch auf den neuen Browser Microsoft Edge.

Cortana in Windows 10 wird von Microsoft als der erste wirklich persönliche digitale Assistent vermarktet. Die Software kann in dem neuen Betriebssystem genutzt werden, um sich beispielsweise an bestimmte Ereignisse erinnern zu lassen, oder aber auch nur um das Wetter oder aktuelle Nachrichten abzufragen. Darüber hinaus weist Microsoft in dem Video schon mal darauf hin, dass Cortana in naher Zukunft auch auf Android- und iOS-Geräten als App zur Verfügung stehen wird. Was den neuen Browser Edge betrifft, so wird dieser der Standard-Browser von Windows 10 auf PCs, Tablets und auch auf Smartphones sein. Edge bietet als derzeit einziger Browser auf dem Markt direkte Cortana-Integration, um noch mehr Informationen, noch schneller aufzuspüren, und die Möglichkeit, via Toucheingabe beziehungsweise Digitalisierstift bestimmte Bereiche einer Webseite zu markieren oder mit Kommentaren zu versehen und dies dann mit Freunden oder Kollegen zu teilen. Außerdem hat Microsoft den Browser auf Geschwindigkeit getrimmt und eine sogenannte Lese-Liste implementiert, die das Speicher von interessanten Artikeln für das spätere Lesen möglich macht. Damit das Lesen auch wirklich Spaß mach bietet Edge auch einen sogenannten Lesemodus, der den Inhalt eines Artikels in einem lesefreundlichen Layout darstellt.

Wie WMPoweruser erläutert, geht die asiatische Publikation von einem Marktstart der Mobilgräte im November aus.Nicht Lumia 940 und Lumia 940 XL, sondern Lumia 950 und Lumia 950 XL sollen die neuen High-End-Lumias von Microsoft heißen, wenn es nach den aktuellsten Infos aus der Gerüchteküche geht. Es wird vermutet, dass Microsoft durch die Entscheidung, von der Lumia-930- gleich zur Lumia-950-Generation zu springen, den großen technologischen Fortschritt verdeutlichen möchte, der zwischen den beiden Smartphone-Reihen liegt. Für den Softwareriesen könnten die beiden kommenden Lumia-Flaggschiffe zudem eine zentrale Rolle bei der Vermarktung von Windows 10 Mobile einnehmen. Wenn es durch sie gelingen würde, die neue Windows Phone ersetzende Plattform erfolgreich am Markt einzuführen, könnte dies dem bislang deutlich hinter Apples und Googles Angeboten hinterher hinkenden Mobil-Ökosystem Microsofts einen dringend benötigten neuen Schwung geben.

Den bislang durchgesickerten technischen Daten nach bringen die neuen Lumia-Modelle auch die Hardware-Voraussetzungen mit, um die in sie gesetzten Erwartungen zu erfüllen. Die beiden Geräte - auch unter ihren Codenamen Talkman und Cityman bekannt - sollen durch ein edles Gehäuse mit Metallrahmen, Unterstützung für das von Microsoft groß beworbene, brandneue Continuum-Feature sowie einem USB Typ-C Anschluss aufwarten. Anders als die zuletzt kursierenden Berichte bescheinigt ItHome außerdem sowohl dem Lumia 950 als auch dem Lumia 950 XL eine Display-Auflösung von 2560 x 1440 Pixel. Davon abgesehen soll nur das Lumia 950 XL mit einem Dreifach-LED-Blitz ausgestattet sein.Die weiteren Angaben von ItHome decken sich dann aber wieder exakt mit dem, was wir schon vorher von den zwei Lumias gehört haben. Das Lumia 950 soll einen 5,2 Zoll, das Lumia 950 XL einen 5,7 Zoll großen Bildschirm besitzen, beide sollen mit 3 Gigabyte RAM und 32 Gigabyte internem Flash-Speicher daherkommen und außerdem eine 20-Megapixel-PureView-Kamera sowie eine 5-Megapixel-Frontkamera bieten. Während das größere der neuen Microsoft-Smartphones offenbar von dem Octa-Core-Prozessor Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 angetrieben wird, steckt im Gehäuse des kleineren wohl der Hexa-Core-Chipsatz Qualcomm Snapdragon 808.

Es wird erwartet, dass Microsoft die offizielle Vorstellung des Lumia 950 und des Lumia 950 XL mit Windows 10 Mobile im kommenden Oktober vornehmen wird. Die Smartphones würden somit vermutlich im November im Handel erhältlich sein.Mit dem 300-US-Dollar-Smartphone OnePlus One konnte der chinesische Hersteller OnePlus im vergangenen Jahr einen echten Überraschungshit landen. In diesem Jahr möchte das Unternehmen mit dem neuen OnePlus 2, das am 27. Juli offiziell vorgestellt werden wird, an diesen Erfolg anknüpfen. Nun sind allerdings bereits vor der anstehenden Präsentation dank der chinesischen Zulassungsbehörde TENAA erste semi-offizielle Bilder des Smartphones enthüllt worden. Den Fotos der TENAA nach sieht das OnePlus 2 dem OnePlus One sehr ähnlich. Auffälligste äußerlich erkennbare Neuerung des diesjährigen OnePlus-Flaggschiffs ist lediglich der physikalische Home-Button. Dieser wurde mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit deshalb hinzugefügt, da das OnePlus 2 laut Herstellerangaben über einen Fingerabdrucksensor verfügen wird, der sogar besser funktionieren soll als Touch ID im Apple iPhone 6 und iPhone 6 Plus.

Dank Turbo Boost 2.0-Technologie ist bei steigenden Anforderungen an das System eine Hochtaktung auf bis zu 3,50 GHz möglich. 16 GB Arbeitsspeicher sorgen dafür, dass auch speicherhungrige Prozesse problemlos abgearbeitet werden. Beim Speicher setzen die Entwickler auf eine Hybrid-Lösung aus einer ein TB großen Festplatte und acht GB Flashspeicher.Als Funktechniken sind WLAN ac+a/g/n und Bluetooth 4.0 an Bord. Der mobile Rechner unterstützt außerdemIntel Wireless Display. Anschlussseitig stehen vier USB 3.0-Ports zur Verfügung, von denen einer eine Sleep-and-Charge Ladefunktion für externer Geräte im ausgeschalteten Zustand bietet.

Zum Erstaunen aller setzte sich der ehemalige Nokia CEO Stephen Elop bei seinem Arbeitsantritt als Chef der Microsoft Handysparte durch, als es darum ging Android als mobiles Betriebssystem auf dem Nokia Smartphone einzusetzen. So stellte man auch auf dem MWC 2014 in Barcelona mit dem Nokia X, Nokia X+ und dem Nokia XL gleich 3 Smartphones vor die zwar auf Android OS basieren aber ganz und gar nicht nach Android aussehen oder sich gar so bedienen lassen. Schnell wird klar das man nicht zuletzt aufgrund der fehlenden Google Play Store Anbindung auf die Standard Google Applikationen verzichten muss. Die nach eigenen Angaben genannte Nokia X Software Plattform erinnert mit ihrem dominierenden Metro Design auch sehr stark an ein Windows Phone und dessen OS. Ob im Grunde ein sanfter Entzug von Android hin zum Windows Phone Vater des Gedanken ist sei mal in den Raum gestellt. Wie sich kurze Zeit später auch herausstellte, wird laut CEO Satya Nadella mit dem in Kürze erwarteten Nokia X2 auch das Letzte auf Android basierende Smartphone die Microsoft Laufbänder verlassen. Doch ein Update hat man dem Endverbraucher noch versprochen, welches auch heute laut offiziellen Nokia Blog via FOTA (Firmware over the air) Update angekündigt wurde.

Bestandteil des heute im Laufe des Tages zu verteilende Update der drei Nokia Smartphones ist der auch im Nokia X2 zu erwartende App Switcher, was im Grunde nichts anderes als der altbekannte Taskmanager ist den ein Android User schon von Tag 1 an kennt und nutzt.Völlig uneigennützig werden auch noch die hauseigenen Dienste Outlook.com, OneDrive und OneNote auf das Nokia X, Nokia X+ und das Nokia XL installiert.Ein jeder von uns der sich für das Thema Smartphone interessiert, stand in der letzten Zeit aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach das ein oder andere Mal vor der Frage, welchen Nutzen eine SmartWatch denn eigentlich hat und ob auch er einen Kauf in Betracht ziehen sollte. Google hat es auf der hauseigenen Entwicklermesse Google I/O 2014 in San Francisco uns wieder ein wenig leichter gemacht indem sie uns schon einmal 2 kostengünstige Uhren vorstellte. Doch was macht die Moto 360 SmartWatch so besonders? Auch sie wird allem Anschein nach auf Basis des jüngst vorgestellten Android Wear Betriebssystem agieren. Aber dennoch hat sie eine Besonderheit, die sich von allen anderen Android SmartWatches unterscheidet: Sie hat ein rundes Uhrengehäuse und kommt somit einer analogen Uhr im eigentlichen Sinne rein optisch am Nächsten.

Apple hat es in der Vergangenheit schon immer überzeugend demonstriert, dass das Auge mit kauft und ersten Resonanzen zufolge wird das auch das Erfolgsrezept der Motorola Moto 360 SmartWatch sein, wenn man sich nicht noch weiter Zeit mit dem Release nimmt. Denn auch der eben genannte Erfolgshersteller aus Cupertino steht mit seiner iWatch in den Startlöchern, von der aber nur wenige wissen wie sie denn nun wirklich aussehen wird.Doch wie nun durch unsere Kollegen von TechCrunch und ihrem jüngst veröffentlichten Video bekannt wurde gibt es noch ein weiteres Unterscheidungsmerkmal zu der LG G Watch und der Samsung Gear Live, der nicht ganz unwichtig erscheint. Pure claims: "FlashArray makes it affordable for every enterprise to offer their users the best all-flash VDI experience."It says spinning disk-based VDI costs $300-$500 per desktop: "Rel[ies] heavily on stateless images to constrain storage growth, fails to scale past 100s of users and ultimately eliminates the overall ROI of VDI due to exorbitant storage costs." The FlashArray with its inline dedupe brings the cost to less than $100/desktop, "less expensive than putting an SSD in a user’s laptop," Pure claims.It also says hybrid disk/flash VDI systems can have variable performance due to caching constriants.

The VDI starter kit, which installs in 15 minutes and comes in high-availability (HA) and non-HA configs, supports hundreds of users and can be expanded in increments to a fully configured FlashArray supporting 5,000 or more VDI users, both stateless and persistent. The system can be managed from vSphere.The VDI reference architecture is actually two: one for VMware, compatible with VMware View 5, and one for Citrix XenDesktop. FlashArray is an approved Rapid Desktop configuration. The Pure Storage VDI starter kit is available now and - according to Pure's VP Products, Matt Kixmoeller - "has an unprecedentedly low point of entry that easily fits within existing IT budgets” - meaning a street price well under $100,000, depending on its configuration. The All-Flash VDI Reference Architecture is available for download today from purestorage.com.Tintri has one user running 800 desktops off its 540 3U hybrid flash/disk system of eight 3TB disk drives and eight 300GB solid state drives costing somewhere around $75,000.

Nimble Storage, a hybrid disk drive/flash array start-up, produced a VDI reference architecture with Cisco in October. It supports 1,000 VDI uses with a 3U enclosure, a Nimble CS220G-X2 array with twelve 1TB hard disk drives and four 160GB flash SSDs, costing $43,000.This is small potatoes compared to Greenbytes, whose 4TB Offload Engine can support 5,000 fat VDI clones each 40GB in size and with 2GB of swap space. Greenbytes uses deduplication and compression to get the nominal 210TB of storage needed down to 4TB.Whiptail says its all-flash INVICTA array can boot 600 VDI seats in three minutes and 47 seconds while doing other work as well. It's all-flash ACCELA arrays are being used by a Netherlands government department in a 20,000-seat VDI deployment with expansion to 40,000 seats coming. ACCELA costs $49,000 per TB suggested retail price level. A 2-node INVICTA has a $250,000 suggested price, while a fully loaded 72TB 6-node INVICTA will set you back $1.8m.

It looks at first glance as if Greenbytes, Violin Memory and Pure Storage are three all-flash array players in the same VDI scale ballpark. Have at it guys - may the best product, support and service player win. Samsung has taken an expensive legal hit from Apple over copying design elements in the iPhone. Yet with the Series 9, Samsung has created something a bit special. The entire Ultrabook concept took its inspiration from the Apple MacBook Air, of course. But Samsung's Series 9 has developed a confident design language of its own.The Series 9 Core i5 model I used – NP900X4C, to be precise – doesn't leave you much change from 900 quid if you shop around, but it is greatly improved over the model I tried almost a year ago. Indeed, it lays to rest any qualms that 'Ultrabook' inevitably means underpowered and overpriced, as you do get considerable oomph for your money.The display has been upgraded too, notching up a 1600 x 900 resolution which is a welcome sight after years of 1366 x 768 screens. The specific model inspected here uses an Intel 1.7GHz Core i5-3317U, running Windows 7 Home Premium. Since you'll want to retain your sanity, this is obviously the one to go for, as the Charge of the Metro Brigade is now upon us.

This 900X model, like its predecessor, also uses the sandblasted aluminium material with a wave-style design that resembles, but isn't, an Apple unibody enclosure. In fact, there are actually ten screws holding a bottom plate in place. Gone are the unforgivingly sharp edges I found made the previous incarnation, the 900X3A, somewhat uncomfortable to use. These are no sharper than an Apple machine.There are other changes. The most important peripheral ports are no longer hidden by a door - the USB, mini-Ethernet, HDMI, USB and audio ports are always accessible, on the left of the machine. A nice touch is the mini to regular Ethernet adapter included in the box. A bay-style housing is still present, used to cover the SD card slot when it's not in use.Software includes a backup program, a configuration manager, and Samsung's Fast Boot. Which does what it says on the tin: bringing you to the login screen in around 10 seconds. The only nagware is Norton's anti-virus software.

Battery life was terrific in real life, giving over 5:30, and typically well over 6 hours in real-life usage, with WiFi on. The display is, as you would expect from Samsung, quite splendid, and as close to matte as you can get these days without actually buying a ThinkPad.The only let down is the keyboard. This is fine by any other standards - but it has a rather tinselly feel, and in such an otherwise well-made machine, was a little incongruous. I should stress, I've used many worse keyboards. And I did like the illuminated indicator light inside the keys for CapsLock and Wi-Fi. Why has it taken laptop manufacturers 30 years to include this on laptops, when regular keyboards have had this for so long?All in all, the Series 9 is a very well made laptop, with many small but significant improvements made over a year. The question remains – do you want to throw approaching a grand at a 15in laptop when you can get one cheaper? When I posed that question a year ago, those willing to make the investment appeared to be professionals who need to make a statement: a salesman or business owner pitching for some big contract. But it's a question that's much easier to answer this year: the matte-ish expansive screen, slimness and excellent construction make it a very good piece of kit with a broader appeal. Even more so with Windows 8 coming in, so it's worth shopping around for a bargain.

Denn das ist die wohl derzeit größte Schwäche der LG G Watch: Sie hält nur gut einen Tag lang mit einer Akku-Ladung durch, je nachdem wie intensiv man sie nutzt.Die LG G Watch ist neben der Samsung Gear Live die erste Smartwatch mit Googles neuer Plattform Android Wear, welche offiziell noch vor der Google I/O 2014 vorgestellt wurde. Für 199 Euro im Google Play Store erhält man eine Uhr mit einem 1,65 Zoll großen Display, welches eine Auflösung von 280 x 280 Pixel besitzt. Für eine sehr flüssige Bedienung sorgt ein mit 1,2 GHz getakteter Snapdragon 400 Quad-Core, dem 512 MB Arbeitsspeicher zur Seite stehen. Funktionsfähig ist die Uhr ab Android 4.3 Jelly Bean und setzt eine spezielle Android Wear Companion App auf dem Smartphone voraus.

Yi Lin Enterprises ist ein Zubehörhersteller aus Taiwan und eben dieses Unternehmen behauptet nun neue Fotos bei Weibo zum iPad Air-Nachfolgemodell veröffentlicht zu haben. Die Bilder zeigen dabei die Rückseite des möglichen iPad Air 2, welches wohl im Herbst diesen Jahres auf den Markt kommen könnte. Der Terminrahmen für die neue Ausführung des iPad dürfte dabei nicht überraschen, schließlich aktualisiert Apple seine Smartphones und Tablets in der Regel im Jahresrhythmus. Das iPad Air ist das aktuelle Top-Modell im Tablet-Bereich von Apple und wurde am 22. Oktober 2013 vorgestellt, entsprechend dürfte der Nachfolger wohl ebenfalls in diesem Zeitraum präsentiert werden. Neben dem iPad Air 2 könnte auch das iPad mini Retina einen Nachfolger erhalten.

Die Fotos des möglichen iPad Air 2 zeigen neue und größere Lautsprecheraussparungen an, diese finden sich allerdings auch weiterhin am unteren Gehäuserand des Tablets wieder. Der Homebutton des iPad Air 2 dürfte mit dem Touch ID-Fingerprintreader ausgestattet werden. Viele hatten dieses Feature bereits beim iPad Air der 1. Generation erwartet, dort fehlte dieses allerdings noch. Einer der Gründe dürfte wohl auch der sein, dass das Nachfolgemodell mit mehr neuen Features aufwarten können sollte, als nur einem besseren Prozessor. Im iPad Air 2 wird der neue A8 von Apple verbaut werden, welcher auch im möglichen iPhone 6 verbaut werden soll. Neben diesen Änderungen gilt auch eine verbesserte Kamera als sehr wahrscheinlich, ob es noch weitere Unterschiede geben wird ist indes noch nicht bekannt.Mitte letzter Woche waren erste Gerüchte aufgetaucht, wonach das HTC One M8 in Kürze auch mit Windows Phone 8.1 vorgestellt werden könnte. Bisher ist das Flaggschiff von HTC wie fast alle Smartphones des Herstellers mit Android ausgestattet. Allerdings hatte HTC früher noch recht regelmäßig aktuelle Windows Phone Smartphones im Portfolio, daher würde es nicht überraschen, wenn das HTC One M8 tatsächlich mit dem OS von Microsoft auf den Markt kommen würde.

Ein weiterer Hinweis in dieser Richtung ist das Update 1 für Windows Phone 8.1. Die ersten Informationen zum Update erwähnen unter anderem die erweiterte Anpassungsmöglichkeiten von Drittherstellern, sowie den möglichen Einsatz von Smart Cases. Das Bild (welches inzwischen entfernt wurde), zeigte auf den Webservern von Verizon das Smartphone mit dem Betriebssystem von Microsoft.Die offizielle Vorstellung wird zwischen dem 19. und 21. August in den USA erwartet. Das Fotos des Smartphones mit Windows Phone 8.1 zeigte als Datum im Systemkalender bzw. der Live-Kachel den 22. August, was auf den offiziellen Verkaufsstart in den USA deuten könnte. Smartphones mit Windows Phone 8.1 werden fast ausschließlich von Nokia, die inzwischen zu Microsoft gehören, hergestellt. Entsprechend wäre etwas Konkurrenz in diesem Bereich sicherlich für alle von Vorteil. Man kann davon ausgehen, dass sich die Hardware des Smartphones wahrscheinlich nicht oder nicht groß von der bereits im Handel erhältlichen Version des One M8 unterscheiden wird. Ob das HTC One M8 mit Windows Phone 8.1 auch in Europa und Deutschland auf den Markt kommen wird, ist zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch nicht bekannt.

Mit der in Kürze anstehenden IFA in Berlin würde sich der ideale Zeitpunkt für Lenovo anbieten, um das Yoga 3 Pro offiziell vorzustellen. Ein Nachfolger zum Yoga 2 Pro liegt nun besonders nahe, da ein Eintrag in der indonesischen Zulassungsstelle Postel aufgetaucht ist. Weitere Infos zum Gerät gibt der Eintrag allerdings nicht her, denn die Kategorie Laptop PC war von vornherein klar. Das letzte Update zum Gerät in der Datenbank erfolgte am 21. Dies würde allerdings bedeuten, dass die Verfügbarkeit im Handel wohl erst im kommenden Jahr möglich wäre, da sich die Broadwell Prozessoren erneut verschoben haben.Durch die neuen Prozessoren würden natürlich auch direkt die etwas veralteten integrierten Grafiklösungen aktualisiert werden. Bisher beherbergten die verbauten Intel Prozessoren nämlich noch die HD 4400 GPU, während beim Nachfolgemodell zumindest mit Intels Iris und Iris Pro zu rechnen ist.

Das hochauflösende 13,3-Zoll Display mit 3.200 x 1.800 Pixel wird wohl eher nicht weiter verfeinert werden können, zumindest was die Höhe der Auflösung betrifft. Die kleinsten Modelle des Yoga 2 Pro hatten noch auf eine klassische Festplatte gesetzt, gut möglich das beim Nachfolger ausschließlich SSDs zum Einsatz kommen werden. Beim Drahtlos-Adapter wäre ein Upgrade in der nächsten Generation ebenfalls möglich, damit auch der neue ac-Standard unterstützt werden kann.Noch im Herbst 2014 soll es soweit sein und die erste Smartwatch mit Technologie von HP wird auf den Markt kommen. Einen genauen Termin oder gar einen Preis gibt es bisher noch nicht. Angesichts der Tatsache, dass der Luxus-Mode Designer Michael Bastian für das Design zuständig ist und der Vertrieb exklusiv über den Online Shop Gilt erfolgen soll, kann man allerdings mit einem hohen Preis rechnen. Optisch wird die Uhr wohl selbst die Motorola Moto 360 deutlich ausstechen können. Neben dem schicken Design wird eine weitere Besonderheit die Uhr für einige interessant machen. Dies führte zu einer Verdopplung der Verkaufszahlen der Xbox One in den USA, zur gleichen Zeit lag Sony aber auch weiterhin mit seiner Next-Gen-Konsole auch im Heimatmarkt Microsofts den USA weiter vorne.Inzwischen gibt es neue weltweite Verkaufszahlen, so konnte Sony im letzten Quartal rund 3,5 Millionen weitere Exemplare der PS4 verkaufen. Bei Microsoft wird von Zahlen im Bereich von 1,1 Millionen gesprochen, wobei man hier sogar eher von der ausgelieferten Menge an den Handel und nicht tatsächlich verkauften Exemplaren der Konsole ausgehen muss. Insgesamt sollen die weltweiten Verkaufszahlen bei rund 8,5 Millionen PS4 und etwa 4,9 Millionen Xbox One liegen, was immer noch einen großen Vorsprung für Sony bedeuten würde.

Diese Zahlen spiegeln dabei nicht etwa nur den Markt in Japan oder den USA wieder, auch in Deutschland sieht es für Microsoft nicht viel besser aus. Aktuelle Zahlen gibt es nun auch für den Markt in Deutschland von Börse Online. Demnach hat Sony in Deutschland seit Ende des vergangenen Jahres etwa 540.000 PlayStation 4-Konsolen verkaufen können, im gleichen Zeitraum kommt Microsoft mit der Xbox One nur auf etwa 170.000 verkaufte Konsolen. Damit wird klar, dass Sony mehr als dreimal so viele Konsolen in Deutschland verkaufen konnte wie Microsoft.Bei der Software liegt Electronic Arts an der Spitze, zumindest in Deutschland. Das Spiel erschien neben dem PC, auch für PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 und Xbox One und konnte allein in Deutschland einen Umsatz von rund 18 Millionen Euro generieren.

Es ist still geworden rund um das Apple TV, im Grunde gibt es seit Monaten keine neuen verwertbaren Gerüchte rund um die Set-Top-Box von Apple. Ein Update des Apple TV wurde zuletzt für den Beginn des 4. Quartals 2014 vermutet. Inzwischen sind mit dem Google Chromecast und Amazon Fire TV weitere Vertreter auf dem umkämpften Markt präsent. Die Vorstellung der aktuellen 3. Generation des Apple TV erfolgte am 7. März 2012, somit sind bereits über zwei Jahre ins Land gezogen, seit Apple die letzte Aktualisierung der Hardware vorgenommen hatte.Viele hatten längst gehofft oder vermutet, dass die 4. Generation des Apple TV in den Läden stehen würde und die Möglichkeit bieten würde, auch direkt auf den App Store zuzugreifen. Damit wäre es dann auch möglich gewesen Spiele direkt auf der Box abspielen zu können. Schließlich stellte Apple mit iOS 7 schon einen offiziellen Gamecontroller-Support vor und in der Zwischenzeit sind auch Modelle verschiedener Zubehörhersteller erhältlich. Der Funktionsumfang des Apple TV hat sich allerdings seit damals nur bedingt durch Software-Updates weiterentwickelt. Mit der Veröffentlichung der neuen Beta-Versionen von iOS 8 und OS X Yosemite hat Apple auch eine neue Beta für das Apple TV bereit gestellt. Dieses bringt kaum neue Features mit sich, aktualisiert aber das Erscheinungsbild und passt dieses an iOS 8 an.

Die Webseite 9to5Mac liefert erste Screenshots der überarbeiteten Darstellung des Apple TV ab. Bisher erinnerte die Optik noch an das ältere iOS 6, während die neue Beta Version die Icons auf die flache Designsprahe von iOS 7 und iOS 8 hin anpasst. Damit möchte Apple wohl ein möglichst einheitliches Erscheinungsbild zwischen Apple TV, Mac und iPhone, sowie iPad sicherstellen. Bei den Features für das Apple TV ist lediglich das Family Sharing hinzugekommen, welches wir im Rahmen unserer Vorschau von iOS 8 bereits näher erläutert hatten.Nach wie vor hält sich das Gerücht im Raum, dass Samsung seinem Galaxy Alpha einen Rahmen aus echtem Metall spendiert, um die Wertigkeit deutlich anzuheben. Immerhin ist das seit Jahren einer der größten Kritikpunkte an Samsung, welche auch mit dem Galaxy S5 nicht gekontert wurden. Da die Südkoreaner das Samsung Galaxy Alpha jedoch als direkten Gegenspieler zum iPhone 6 positionieren wollen, muss auch die Materialwahl entsprechend ausfallen. Neben den zahlreichen neuen Fotos aus allen erdenklichen Blickwinkeln ist es aber ein ganz besonderes Gerücht, welches aufhorchen lässt.

Denn wie das „Vorbild" von Apple soll auch das Samsung Galaxy Alpha in gleich zwei Größen auf den Markt kommen. Neben einem recht handlichen Modell mit 4,7-Zoll großem HD-Display, ist die Rede von einem Phablet mit 6,7-Zoll Diagonale, womit selbst solche Riesen wie das Sony Xperia Z Ultra oder das Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 etwas klein wirken. Aber noch sind das lediglich Gerüchte, welche vermutlich spätestens am 13. August aufgelöst werden.Dann wird sich auch zeigen ob das Samsung Galaxy Alpha tatsächlich nur über eine HD-Auflösung von 1.280 x 720 Pixel verfügen wird, während der Rest der Hardware mit Exynos 5433 Octa-Core, 16 Megapixel Kamera inklusive optischem Bildstabilisator stimmt. Dass ein Fingerabdruck-Sensor und ein Pulsmesser verbaut sein werden kann man bereits anhand der Fotos erkennen.

Nachdem erst der Motorola-Support für die Modelle Moto X und Moto G ein Update auf Android L bestätigt hatte, ist nun zumindest für Motorolas Flaggschiff Moto X auch von anderer Seite die Bestätigung gekommen. Der Google+ Nutzer Josh B hatte kurzerhand die Frage gestellt, ob denn das Top-Modell von Motorola nach wie vor Android L erhalten wird und mit Produktmanager Punit Soni gibt es nun die mehr oder minder offizielle Bestätigung für das Update.Zu mehr als zu einem „Ja" hat es allerdings nicht gereicht, da auch Motorola auf den finalen Quellcode des neuen Betriebssystems warten muss. Fast noch im selben Atemzug gibt der Produktmanager von Motorola den Netzbetreibern die Schuld, dass Updates zum Teil sehr lange brauchen. Zwar behauptet er das nicht direkt, aber es ergibt sich aus dem Kontext der Unterhaltung.Mit Android L wird Google eines der größten Updates überhaupt in der Geschichte von Android bereitstellen. Neben einer rundum erneuerten Oberfläche, welche Google unter der Bezeichnung Material Design auch auf zahlreiche andere Plattformen bringen will, gibt es vor allem im Bereich der API-Schnittstellen für Entwickler zahlreiche Veränderungen. Aber auch Anwender können unter anderem von einer gesteigerten Performance und einem noch besseren Energie-Management profitieren.

Die Fertigstellung von Android L wird für diesen Herbst erwartet, mit einer anschließenden Verteilung für die Nexus-Geräte. Nur wann genau es soweit sein wird ist nicht bekannt. Wer ein Nexus 5 oder Nexus 7 WiFi vom letzten Jahr besitzt, der kann sich zumindest schon mal eine Developer Preview installieren und ein wenig herumprobieren.Zwar ist die Moto 360 des US-amerikanischen Unternehmens Motorola bei weitem nicht die erste Uhr mit rundem Display, aber die erste echte SmartWatch mit einem solchen ist sie dennoch. Das Echo der Zielgruppe ist jedenfalls sehr positiv ausgefallen und sie wird gefühlt mindestens ähnlich sehnlichst erwartet wie die iWatch von Apple. Das starke Interesse spiegelt zumindest den Wunsch nach einer smarten Uhr wider, welche sich in ihrem Design an ganz klassische Armbanduhren halten soll. In wie weit sich jedoch die Bedienung der auf eckigen Karten basierenden Oberfläche auf einem kreisrunden Display auswirkt werden frühestens die ersten Tests zeigen.

Anders als die LG G Watch wird die Moto 360 von Motorola über eine physische Taste verfügen, über welche sich die Uhr vermutlich in gewissem Grad bedienen lassen könnte. Wahrscheinlich wird das lediglich die Power-Taste sein, wie es bei der Samsung Gear Live der Fall ist.Auf den von Evan Blass veröffentlichten Bildern wirkt die Moto 360 zwar ein wenig dick, aber im Vergleich zu anderen SmartWatches oder gar klassischen Uhren und vor allem Chronographen, wäre die Motorola-Uhr in bester Gesellschaft. Die meisten Bedenken werden eher über den Durchmesser des Display geäußert: Für dünne Handgelenke dürfte die Moto 360 vermutlich kaum etwas sein.Unklar ist jedoch nach wie vor wann Motorola die Moto 360 offiziell vorstellt und für wie viel sie verkauft werden soll. Bisher war immer die Rede von Sommer 2014, aber allzu viel Zeit bleibt dem noch in Googles Besitz befindlichen Unternehmen nicht mehr. Immerhin wird sie mit einem Energie-effizienten OLED-Display ausgestattet sein, in verschiedenen Optionen im Moto Maker verkauft und lässt sich drahtlos aufladen. Bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass der Akku richtig viel Ausdauer hat.

The router and personal cloud features are a little more exciting. Of the two, the router functionality probably works best. It’s altogether simple to set up, and when plugged into a modem, gets close to your maximum internet speeds. There’s an ethernet port on its back, so if you’re staying in a hotel room with just a cabled connection, you can just hook it up here and make it wireless. The device can also act as a bridge for multiple wireless connections at once. And with a little ingenuity, you can use it to get something like a Chromecast working over previously inaccessible networks.As a NAS, the TripMate isn’t quite as robust. The TripMate app you need to use to access your stuff is still a bit clunky, and the device itself doesn’t have any included storage. If you’re willing to fiddle around with it, though, it’s at least possible to hook a hard drive or microSD card up to the device, then stream video or music files you have on it through the cloud. It’s consistent enough to be useful on a long flight or train ride.

You can find individual batteries, wall chargers, NAS devices, and routers that perform better, but then you have to keep track of four separate things. Given how much this thing does for its size (and price) — and given the 4.4 rating it has on Amazon after 2,600 user reviews — the TripMate is a great companion for any tech-savvy traveler. Nobody needs a tablet. The best of them get close to blending the productivity of a laptop with the portability of a smartphone, but unless you splurge on something like a Surface Pro, they usually end up being weird approximations of the two. If you want to get work done, you’re usually better off with a laptop. If you want to read things on the go, you’re usually better off with a smartphone. (Or at least a big smartphone.)Instead, most tablets are still best for luxury. They're something for your in-between time, when you’re sitting around and you want a more convenient way of throwing on a Netflix stream, opening up an e-book, or playing a game of Plants vs. Zombies. They’re simpler to start up than laptops, and fitted with bigger screens than smartphones. They don’t replace the two, but they can be convenient sidekicks to both.

Still, because a tablet isn’t essential to most people’s lives, it’s totally understandable if you don’t want to overpay for one. Luckily, you don’t have to. Although the highest-quality iPad Airs and Galaxy Tabs cost $400 or more, there are still a handful of worthwhile options in the $200 range. So, per usual, we scoured the web and did some hands-on testing to find them. (With one minor yet worthwhile exception, which we'll explain below.) We also gave them our usual BI Rating.In doing so, we looked for the obvious. You won’t find strong enough performance to get a ton of work done, but in this range, you’re looking for a media machine anyway. The build doesn’t have to be made of high-end metals, but it should feel comfortable and well put-together. You want enough storage space, along with software that, at the very least, doesn’t get between you and your stuff. And of course, you want a good screen — colorful, bright, and, ideally, sharp. With few exceptions, that screen will be around 7 or 8 inches.

With all that out of the way, here are our favorite affordable tablets you can buy today.Update (2/11/16): We've completed our first major refresh of this guide. The Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 is our new top pick among budget Android tablets, while the Amazon Fire gets a mention as an ultra-cheap option. We've also updated our Apple iPad mini 2 entry to further explain why it's been included here.First, we’re going to cheat a bit. If you can pony up an extra $70 to get Apple’s entry-level iPad, it’s the only almost-budget slate that's worth the plunge. The iPad mini 2 is technically the weakest of Apple’s current crop of tablets, but two years into its existence it’s held up well. Its metal-and-glass build is still refined, tightly constructed, and pleasant-feeling in the hand. Its 7.9-inch, 2048x1536 IPS display isn’t as vivid or deep as the world-beating (among non-OLED options) panels of the newer iPad mini 4 or iPad Air 2 — mostly because of its lower maximum color gamut — but it’s still impressively sharp, and it’s still miles more fine-tuned than the vast majority of tablets in the budget range. Compared to those slates, it still comes off like a notably higher-end product.

The main reason we’re breaking our $200 guideline, though, is because the mini 2 runs iOS 9. As we’ve said before, Apple’s mobile OS is far and away the best operating system for tablets. It’s constantly easy to navigate, it doesn’t force the risk of delayed updates, and it recently added split-screen support, giving the mini 2 a measure of multitasking ability in the process.Most importantly, it’s still something of the default among app developers — if a major app (or game) launches or makes a major update, you’re almost guaranteed to see it as soon as it hits, if at all, on an iPad. Android has closed the gap in terms of app quantity over the years, but it still presents that risk, especially when it comes to new games. iOS also has decidedly more apps that are optimized for larger displays. Explore Android far enough and you’ll still see a few too many apps that are either awkwardly laid out or presented like they’re on a blown-up smartphone. That sort of annoyance is rare here.The only major downsides are that paid apps tend to cost a dollar or two more, and that Apple’s first-party apps are routinely less inviting their counterparts from Google, Microsoft, and the like. Otherwise, we’d say the added convenience is worth a premium.

All of this means that, display discrepancy aside, the iPad mini 2 isn’t that far off from the iPad mini 4. The primary concern is that its specs are aging. But while its two-year old A7 chip and 1GB of RAM will never be as robust as Apple’s latest hardware, iOS is still light enough for them to get you through a YouTube binging session or most modern games without much issue. For the general entertainment purposes a small tablet is meant for, it’s fine. Likewise, the mini 2’s battery can’t power up iOS 9 for as long as its successors, but the 8 or so hours of juice it gets per charge is passable.When it comes down to it, the iPad’s position atop the tablet food chain is deserved. Whichever one you pick, you get the most complete user experience, with an excellent display, in a design that looks and feels great. You don’t have to deal with as many compromises.For now, all of that still applies to the iPad mini 2, even if it is getting a bit long in the tooth. Now that its base model — which includes 16GB of unfortunately non-upgradeable storage — has dropped from $400 to $270, it’s the only Apple device in existence that could reasonably be considered a bargain. Nowadays, you can often find it for less than that.

Yes, it’s a little bit pricier than the options below, but the difference in general quality, especially with regard to how better-adjusted iOS is on tablets compared to Android or Windows, is drastic enough to make it worth recommending upfront. If you absolutely cannot go above $200, however, the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 is only budget Android tablet that can compete with — and, in many ways, best — the mini 2’s convenience. In fact, in terms of pure value, it’s the best buy you can make on any Android tablet today.Much of that is because of how powerful this thing is. It runs on the same Nvidia Tegra K1 SoC and 2GB of RAM as its predecessor — which was also named the Shield, sold for $300, and was recalled last summer over fears of faulty batteries — and that makes it significantly more capable than any other sub-$200 tablet we’ve tested. It’s competing with the iPad Air 2s and Samsung Galaxy Tab S2s of the world more than anything else. The various benchmark tests we ran in our testing only furthered that idea. This is important, not just because it gives you a strong and speedy slate today, but because it’ll give you something decent in the years to come. That second GB of RAM is a big leg up.

The Shield is particularly robust when it comes to graphics performance, which makes sense given how much focus it puts on gaming. Every game we tested was nothing but smooth, but beyond that, Nvidia’s loaded up the device with 3 free months of its (surprisingly fluid) GeForce Now cloud gaming service, the ability to stream your own (compatible) PC games straight to the tablet, and a handful of exclusive (relative to other slates) PC game ports. There’s also a handy mini-HDMI slot, which lets the Shield hook up to a TV and act as a makeshift console. You need to pay another $60 for Nvidia’s (solid) Shield controller to get anything out of this, and GeForce Now’s limited selection makes it an iffy buy, but if you’re into gaming, these are all nice bonuses.Even if you’re not, though, the Shield gets very little wrong. Its 8-inch 1920x1200 display is sharp, bright, and rich for the money. It also uses a 16:10 ratio, which is a little more spacious than the usual 16:9 without making the device unwieldy. It’s not the thinnest or flashiest slate around, but its soft, grippy build is practical, and its front-facing speakers work well. (Though the overly recessed power button is a pain.) The 8-9 hours of battery life (with minimal gaming) is fine. It also supports up to 128GB microSD cards, which is good, since the 16GB of included space is too little for a gaming machine. And again, it’s fast.

Given the price tag, the only real downside here is in the software. Nvidia’s done well to keep a near-stock version of Android 5.1.1 — with an Android 6.0 update available, though you might want to hold off on that for now — but, as mentioned above, Android itself lags behind iOS when it comes to tablet app support and multitasking functionality. The very idea of an "Android gaming tablet” is somewhat self-defeating; since so many games arrive first (or at all) on iOS, most people interested in gaming on the go are still better off with an iPad. Nevertheless, Android is familiar for many, and Nvidia’s extra features can be fun for PC gaming enthusiasts. You’re buying the Shield for how rock solid it is as a tablet, though — this mix of power, display quality, and versatility just isn’t available on any other cheap slate.We’ve highlighted it before, but if you’re willing to invest in world of Amazon, the Fire HD 8 is a nifty little treat. Neither its 1280x800 display, nor its all-plastic design, nor its middle-of-the-road processor is going to wow you, but for a $150 slate it’s all competent and adequate.

If you like to pass the time reading on your commute, an e-reader is the most portable way to do that. This'll allow you to back up important documents when you're traveling or giving a presentation out of the office on the cheap. SanDisk's USB stick is capable of holding anywhere from 4 to 64GB of files, and it's tiny, even by flash drive standards. When it comes to cheap Bluetooth speakers, you have to take what you can get. Sound quality is almost inherently limited at or under the £35 range — you really have to double that, at the least, before you can consistently find devices with the equipment capable of producing commendable audio. And even then, you’ll never get that much in the way of bass or general fullness.At the same time, you don’t have to spend too long perusing Amazon’s best sellers chart to see that the cheap stuff is popular. That allows it to keep putting out okay (at best) sound, which means that those on a budget need to look for small victories. In some cases, that’s waterproofing. In others, it’s supreme portability. In the Anker SoundCore’s, it’s tremendous battery life.

Anker is best known for its portable batteries and charging products, some of which we’ve highlighted before, but it’s hung around this budget speaker market for the past few years. The £30 SoundCore is one of its newest models, and while we can’t say it sounds great, it does enough right to be worth considering if you just want a straightforward, not-annoying personal speaker that’ll add volume around the house without breaking the bank. The SoundCore itself is a mostly no-frills affair. It’s not water-resistant in any way, it’s not particularly flashy, and its on-device controls are largely limited to the basics. That said, its bar-shaped build is tightly put together, and its soft plastic feels smooth to the touch, even if it does attract a little finger grease. The whole thing pairs quickly and reliably over Bluetooth 4.0, and automatically connects to the last device you used. It works fine as a simple speakerphone when needed. And while we don’t think Anker has enough clout to get away with plastering its logo across the SoundCore’s front, it’s not ugly either.

As noted above, it’s hard to find much fullness or fidelity among affordable speakers. The SoundCore doesn’t change that — it lacks some edge, it struggles to separate more complex tracks, and its bass, while at least present, is often anemic and imprecise. Compared to our favorite sub-£35 speaker right now, the JBL Clip+, it’s neither as loud nor as well-defined. But that’s about par for the course with these things. For what it is, and for the money, the SoundCore is a largely smooth and pleasant listen. It very clearly emphasizes the midrange, but it doesn’t feel outright unbalanced or overly thin. Vocals often come through cleanly, especially with less intense music. It also gets a good amount of volume without becoming explicitly harsh. It’s a warmer profile, so if you often listen to podcasts or more laid-back, acoustic stuff, it’ll serve you well. Just try to avoid hip-hop or more chaotic rock.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the SoundCore’s saving grace is battery life. Anker rates the speaker as lasting 24 hours with average use, and based on our testing, it’s not far off. We tested the device at moderate to high volumes for about a week before needing to find an outlet, coming close to 20 hours in total. For £30, that’s fantastic. If cash is tight and you care at all about sound quality, we’d still recommend the aforementioned Clip+, or doing what you can to save up for something like the Logitech X300 or JBL Flip 3. If you’re in the market for a £30 Bluetooth speaker, though, there’s a good chance you’re not the most critical listener. In that case, the SoundCore is an easy-to-use, long-lasting way to boost the noise coming from your smartphone or laptop.Lenovo has a new, giant, 27-inch all-in-one touchscreen desktop PC that doubles as a huge tablet — and Lenovo wants you and your family to gather around it for game night.The Lenovo Home 500, with a price tag of $1549, is your pretty standard PC, at first blush.

But plug in a mouse and keyboard, or connect Bluetooth versions of the same, and it's a fully-functional Windows 10 PC. Da liegt ein Android-Smartphone halt nicht sehr weit weg und wurde auch schon seit Jahren gefordert. Die Nokia X Modelle könnten somit erst der Anfang gewesen sein, obwohl Microsoft die Geräte nach nur zwei Generationen bereits wieder einstampft.Auch wenn das für Nokia-Fans eine sehr erfreuliche Nachricht sein dürfte, wird es der verbliebene Rest des einstigen Mobilfunk-Marktführers schwer haben, das Geschäft für Smartphones von Grund auf neu aufzubauen. Man kann jedoch davon ausgehen, dass die finnische Regierung dem einstigen Vorzeige-Konzern des Landes finanziell kräftig unter die Arme greifen wird, immerhin dürften damit zahlreiche Jobs in dem nordischen Land geschaffen werden.

Diese zeigen die Uhr aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln in großer Genauigkeit und nun gibt es schon wieder neue Bilder der smarten Uhr. Nur das dieses Mal die Ladeschale der Moto 360 im Mittelpunkt steht. Das Einzige was wirklich noch fehlt ist ein Datum ab wann die begehrte Uhr gekauft werden kann und vor allem für wie viel. Zuletzt war die Rede von einer möglichen Unverbindlichen Preisempfehlung von 249 US-Dollar beziehungsweise Euro. Die Vorstellung soll im Sommer erfolgen.Ein Ultrabook im Tablet-Format? Das war mit den Microsoft Surface Modellen bisher am besten möglich. Doch Akkulaufzeit, das Windows 8.1 Betriebssystem und die Wärmeentwicklung konnten nicht überzeugen. Diese Probleme will Microsoft mit dem Surface Pro 3 ausgemerzt haben und auch eine abgespeckte Windows RT Variante ist vom Markt verschwunden bzw. wird aktuell in der zweiten Generation abverkauft. Aus dem holprigen Start hat das US-amerikanische Unternehmen scheinbar gelernt, weshalb der Andrang auf das Surface Pro 3 in den USA gewaltig zu sein scheint.

Für den deutschen Markt fällt der Start am 28. August 2014. Dann ist das Surface Pro 3 auch hierzulande erhältlich. Vorbesteller müssen wir enttäuschen, auch diese erhalten das Gerät erst am Verkaufstag. Kommen wir zu den technischen Daten. Im Microsoft Online-Shop wird das Surface Pro 3 wahlweise mit den Prozessoren Intel Core i3 4020Y (1,5 GHz), Intel Core i5 4300U (2,9 GHz) und Intel Core i7 4650U (3,3 GHz) angeboten. Mit an Bord ist auch ein TPM-Chip für die Fernwartung und Sicherheits-Funktionen. Beim Speicher setzt man auf 4 GB RAM bei den Versionen mit 64 GB und 128 GB SSD. Wer sich für eine Variante mit 256 GB oder 512 GB SSD entscheidet, bekommt 8 GB Arbeitsspeicher.Auf 12 Zoll gibt es eine Auflösung von 2.160 x 1.440 Pixel. Microsoft spricht in diesem Fall von einem Full HD Plus Display mit einem Seitenverhältnis von 3:2. Die Eingabe erfolgt entweder mit dem Finger auf dem Multitouch-Bildschirm oder per Type-Cover inklusive Tastatur und Touchpad. Gefunkt wird über WLAN, das auch im 802.11ac Standard vorhanden ist. Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0, MicroSD-Kartenleser, Mini DisplayPort und der Coveranschluss sind ebenfalls an Bord. Vorne und hinten gibt es jeweils eine 5 Megapixel Kamera. Die Akkulaufzeit soll bis zu 9 Stunden betragen. Das alles bei einem Gewicht von 800 Gramm und einer Bauhöhe von 9,1 Millimeter.

Preislich kann es schnell sehr teuer werden. Die kleinste Version mit Intel Core i3 Prozessor, 4 GB RAM und 64 GB SSD schlägt bereits mit 799 Euro zu Buche. Nimmt man eine klassische Ultrabook-Konfiguration mit 128 GB SSD, Intel Core i5 und 4 GB RAM ist man schon bei 1.000 Euro. Richtig teuer wird es bei der Wahl eines Intel Core i7, 512 GB SSD und 8 GB RAM. Dafür legt man aktuell 1.949 Euro auf den Tisch. Dafür bekommt man auch ein Apple Macbook Pro 13,3 Zoll mit Retina Display und deutlich mehr Leistung.Immer mehr orientiert sich LG am Hauptkonkurrenten Samsung - beide Unternehmen haben ihren Sitz und Südkorea. Gab es bei LG früher immer nur ein Flaggschiff Smartphone, ging Samsung den Weg der modifizierten Modelle. Mini, Camera, Note - viele Samsung Galaxy Marken wurden platziert. Mit dem LG G2 und dessen Mini-Variante ging LG erstmals in diese Richtung. Das LG G3 baut das Geschäftsmodell weiter aus. Für Deutschland wurde bereits das LG G3 s angekündigt, in Asien rechnet man jetzt sogar mit einem LG G3 Stylus als Konkurrenz für das Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Das LG G3 A soll nun eine Art Zwischenmodell sein, das einen 5,2 Zoll Bildschirm und den älteren Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 mit Adreno 330 Grafik beinhaltet. Neben diesen Komponenten werkeln im Inneren 2 GB Arbeitsspeicher und ein 32 GB Flash-Speicher. Das IPS-Display zeigt natürlich eine Auflösung von 1.920 x 1.080 Pixel (Full HD) an. Die Kamera soll mit 13 Megapixel an der Rückseite auflösen, die Front zeigt einen 2,1 MP Sensor. Der Akku ist mit 2.610 mAh bemessen und Google Android 4.4 KitKat ist vorinstalliert. WLAN-n, LTE-A, Bluetooth 4.0 und NFC sind ebenso mit von der Partie.Mit 147 Gramm und einer Bauhöhe von 9,8 Millimeter ist das neue LG G3 A noch relativ kompakt. Allerdings wird bisher nur von einem Launch auf dem Markt in Südkorea und Asien allgemein gesprochen. Ein Statement zur Platzierung in Europa oder gar in Deutschland wurde noch nicht veröffentlicht.

Das hängt mit der Device-ID zusammen, die sich in genannten Fällen ändert und von den Google-Servern zur Identifizierung genutzt wird. Das Streaming-Angebot Google Play Music All Access ist davon übrigens nicht betroffen.

Dieses Verhalten bei der Autorisierung und das auch noch in Verbindung mit dem Limit der 10 Geräte bringen auch einfache Nutzer schnell an den Rand der Verzweiflung, weil man sein Smartphone nicht mehr mit Google Play Music verbinden kann. Es bleibt nur die Hoffnung, dass Google lieber früher als später dem Druck und der Kritik seiner Nutzer nachgibt und das Limit entweder wieder entfernt – so wie es zuvor der Fall war – oder das Limit deutlich anhebt. Schließlich verteilen manche Hersteller für ihre aktuellen Top-Smartphones mehrere Updates im Jahr und es soll den einen oder anderen geben, der mehr als nur ein Android-Gerät sein eigen nennt.Über einen etwas umständlichen Weg kann man immerhin von Google manuell die Liste der autorisierten Geräte löschen lassen, ohne das der Zähler zum De-Autorisieren davon angerührt wird. Dazu muss man einfach den Google-Support anrufen und um ein zurücksetzen der mit Google Play Music verknüpften Geräte bitten. Das Löschen dauert etwa 24 Stunden und erst nach dieser Zeit kann man seine Android-Geräte wieder neu autorisieren lassen.

Interessant an der Sache ist eigentlich, dass in der englischen Version des Google Play Music Support das Limit den maximal vier De-Autorisierungen im Jahr angegeben ist, in der deutschen Ausgabe aber kein Wort darüber verloren wird.Die Informationen über diesen Testlauf mit komplett funktionstüchtigen Smartphones kommt direkt aus Industriekreisen aus dem Umfeld von Samsung, ohne allzu viele Details verraten zu können. Zum Beispiel ist noch unklar ob aus den Versuchen ein verkaufsfähiges Modell entsteht, welches tauglich ist für den Massenmarkt. Wahrscheinlicher ist eher ein stark limitiertes Premium-Modell, welches wie das Samsung Galaxy Round lediglich in Südkorea verkauft werden könnte. Für letztere Möglichkeit spricht vor allem die Tatsache, dass die Produktion des nötigen Kunststoff-Substrates für die Youm-Displays nur in geringen Mengen absolviert werden kann.Das wiederum würde zu einem anderen Gerücht passen welches besagt, dass es vom Samsung Galaxy Note 4 eine Sonder-Edition mit flexiblem Display geben könnte. Sollte das der Wahrheit entsprechen, dann dürften die nötigen Informationen mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit am 3. September verkündet werden, wenn Samsung sein Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 im Rahmen der IFA 2014 abhält. Erst kürzlich wurde das Gerücht mit einem flexiblen Display für das Galaxy Note 4 wieder aufgewärmt, zusammen mit einem Gehäuse aus Metall.

We got a portable(ish) hologenerator, a portable Starfleet computer that looked very much like a modern laptop and a Cardassian medical tricorder worn like a glove.

Season Three was to prove pivotal for DS9. Suddenly it was the only Trek show on air. TNG had bowed out in a blaze of glory and incoming newbie Star Trek: Voyager wouldn’t clash until episode 11. Unfortunately, backstage pressures were building. The show wasn’t generating the same buzz as TNG, and its preoccupation with Bajoran religion and politics were proving a turn-off. The solution was to step up the threat of the kick-ass, drugged-up Jem‘Hadar, and to draft in the Defiant, the first Federation warship to employ a cloaking device. DS9 found its action mojo, even if it meant flip-flopping on the original premise.Reflecting a wider talent draft from TNG, Jonathan 'Riker' Frakes guested both in front and behind the camera. The fans seemed satisfied. Ratings solidified, averaging twenty points higher than its nearest syndicated competitor, the pneumatic Baywatch. But that didn’t stop the studio demanding yet more shake-ups for Season Four. Enter everyone’s favourite Klingon, Worf.

Executive producer Ira Steven Behr recalled: "Of all the TNG characters, probably the one who would fit in the best would be Worf.” The story possibilities were strong. The Federation was no longer on speaking terms with the Klingon Empire, leaving Worf very much out on a limb. His arrival, in the two-part The Way of the Warrior is fondly regarded as one of DS9’s best episodes.Season Four also saw co-stars Siddig and Visitor become an item off camera, necessitating the writers to work Visitor’s pregnancy into the series. My personal season highlight? Little Green Men, in which Quark, Rom and Nog wind up in Roswell, New Mexico…Season Five conveniently corresponded with the 30th anniversary of the franchise, and in celebration DS9 gave us Trials and Tribble-ations, which inventively (and expensively) mashed the cast into the classic TOS Trouble with Tribbles episode, creating a ratings smash in the process.Season Six similarly broke new ground, opening with a six-episode arc that flew in the face of the episodic nature of TV shows of the time. And it wrapped by killing off one of its key characters.

Apple will reportedly upgrade its Macs this year to include "5G WiFi", a technology that will increase wireless connectivity to speeds "in excess of a gigabit per second," according to Cupertino's purported chip partner, Broadcom.This news comes courtesy of The Next Web, which reports that "ources familiar with Apple's plans" have told them that Apple has "struck a deal" with Broadcom to include that company's 5G WiFi (802.11ac) chips in its 2013 Mac lineup – presumably MacBook Pros, iMacs, and Mac minis, and perhaps even Mac Pros, if Apple remembers that it still offers that beefy tower.

According to Hurlston, we should see more 802.11ac-equipped clients "hitting around CES if not immediately following CES." That show will be held next week in Las Vegas, so the picture should become more clear by then."Perhaps most significantly," Hurlston said, "is smartphones and tablets, and we expect the first phones and tablets certainly to be in very, very early 2013." Lenovo today is the leader of the global PC industry” but "rapid rise in the field of competitors should not be underestimated.”To head off those competitors, Yang feels Lenovo needs to recognise that the company's brand plans well in mainstream and low-end products, but that the "Think” brand "is the best brand assets, and only compete in the high-end market with Apple brand.”The company will therefore "need to give full play to the potential of these two brands in their respective market segments, each value to the maximum extent possible. We want to clarify and simplify our brand strategy, let the market positioning of each of the two brands Lenovo and Think more clearly understood, and thus better serve the business expansion.”

That strategy will see the creation, as of April 1st, of a new Lenovo Business Group offering "mainstream consumer and commercial desktop computers, laptop and tablet computer business.” This group is also charged with "global expansion” for the company's burgeoning smartphone business, and other connected devices like Smart TVs.The Think Business Group will be "committed to advancing the high-end commercial and consumer business, while continuing to consolidate the core of the global commercial business leadership (especially relational business), another aspects in the field of desktop and notebook computers, to create a high-end consumer brands, let Think respected brand image in the consumer area and in commercial areas.”The Think group will also enjoy "new additional input of enterprise-class business and workstation team,” an addition sure to be noted at HP given the ailing giant last year proclaimed it was still the planet's top PC seller if one counts workstations as part of the PC market.

A Think-branded business unit's chance of taking on Apple seem slim. Neither the Lenovo or Think brands made it into Interbrand's list of 2012's top 100 brands. Yang's letter reportedly says Lenovo plans a "'defence + attack' double fist strategy” that will see it "maintaining gains and continue to achieve new breakthroughs” but doesn't mention if a marketing offensive to make Think as cool as iThink is planned.With smartphones and smart TVs the responsibility of the new Lenovo Business unit, perhaps tablet devices – such as the well-received Yoga – and high-end laptops are the vehicles Lenovo hopes will carry it into the homes and offices of the well-heeled. Even that plan, however, seems optimistic given tablet prices are falling and the sweet spot for ultrabooks is falling well below four figures in all western currencies.Lenovo can point to the scoreboard and its $US16bn revenue climb – from $14bn to $30bn in the last year – as evidence it's doing plenty right. Building a brand to rival Apple will need efforts that don't just translate its current success.

What next for the technology executive who saddled his previous employer with a controversial flagship operating system, polarised management and swiftly left under a cloud? Telling others how to build successful products, of course.Former Windows chief Steve Sinofsky has launched himself as a product development expert with a blog titled Learning by Shipping, which he describes as "thoughts and perspectives on product development, management and the process of bringing new products to market".The ex-exec said his website is a continuation of writing and blogging he did while at Microsoft on the development of Office, Windows 7 and Windows 8. The blog's title is similar to the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs' quip about artists and shipping products.Sinofsky has already written a whole book on product development strategy, One Strategy: Organization Planning and Decision Making, with Harvard Business School Prof Marco Iansiti.In December the former Microsoftie tweeted he will be teaching at Harvard as an executive in residence while also writing and conducting research. Sinofsky said he won’t go into "the past regarding Microsoft” for his new blog and promised that he "will work to keep posts free of snark and ad hoc criticisms in hopes that the comments and back and forth will be the same”.

During his time Sinofsky successfully got the Office and Windows teams shipping code to deadline and helped lift Microsoft out of what he now calls "post-Vista recovery”.However, Sinofsky left the software giant rather suddenly in November, and without adequate explanation, just three weeks after the launch of Windows 8 and its Surface hardware. His rapid exit led to the surprise promotion of underling Julie Larson Green, who now heads the $14bn Windows division.There were rumours of a clash between Sinofsky and Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer, who wrote a brief farewell to his Windows chief in a memo to staff. The normally reserved Sinofsky has denied he was forced out as the result of a failed power play to run other groups inside Microsoft beyond the Windows family.Sinofsky was also a polarising figure who failed to win over fellow executives; his management philosophy led to a reorganisation of Microsoft’s product structure during with a cast of middle-ranking execs were sidelined or forced out.As for Windows 8, Sinofsky has given Microsoft an operating system whose success is far from guaranteed and that, at last count in the fourth quarter of 2012, was not selling in the kinds of numbers Microsoft had hoped for.The new operating system has divided the industry and users in its attempt to marry a touchscreen user interface with the classic mouse-driven Windows design. Meanwhile, its Surface laptop-cum-tablet competes with loyal PC dealers and distribution channel partners who’ve helped drive Windows’ success in the past.

I’ve always been strangely fascinated by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary - amazing how time flies, even when you’re not an agent of the Federation Department of Temporal Investigations - it’s the densest and most mythology-rich of all the Star Trek TV shows. Often ambitious and audacious, it won more battles than it lost and remains a box-set must-own for any card-carrying Starfleet fan. However, it was also paradoxically (at times) the slowest, ugliest SF show on the box.In many ways, DS9 was the anti-TNG. While Star Trek: The Next Generation was shiny, clean and antiseptic - a look exaggerated by JJ Abrams for his lens-flare reboot - DS9 was unapologetically grey and dirty.For this third televised Trek, the show’s producers parked the idea of galactic gallivanting, choosing instead to base their stories on a dilapidated space station at the edge of the Alpha Quadrant. Thanks to a conveniently placed wormhole, aliens would come to DS9 and not vice versa. While series creator Gene Roddenberry famously conceived the original Trek as a SF reworking of vintage western show Wagon Train, Paramount head Brandon Tartikoff declared DS9 more The Rifleman, the story of a man and his son surviving on the wild frontier.

DS9 was to debut during the sixth season of TNG, running in tandem with the hit sequel series before taking up the mantle solo. It needed to offer something different, and expectations were high. After a lacklustre first season, TNG had developed into a firm fan favourite.Co-creator Michael Piller, who along with Rick Berman had steered the Enterprise NCC-1701-D to such great success, felt the best option was a big change in direction: "Coming with the wind at our backs, it really felt as if we had figured out what made Star Trek work, and that we could bring all the vision that Gene Roddenberry had about space and the future to a different kind of franchise. We didn’t want to have another series of shows about space travel.”DS9 certainly looked unlike any Trek before it. There was a sludgy, high contrast realism to life on the space station, emphasised by grotty broadcast quality of the show, which like TNG was being edited on video at the time.The original director of photography Marvin Rush, and production designer Herman Zimmerman, revelled in the shadows offered by the utilitarian, militaristic, alien location. The show was to receive multiple Primetime Emmy nominations for its art direction, as well as award noms for cinematography and production design, from the ASC and Art Directors Guild respectively. Ironically, the real beauty of this work is only ever likely to be realised if and when Paramount greenlights an HD remaster.

DS9’s choice of principal characters was similarly bold. Avery Brooks, as the aloof Federation Commander Benjamin Sisko, Nana Visitor as Bajorian Major Kira Nerys and Rene Auberjonois as shape-shifter Odo were uniquely compelling creations, far from Roddenberry’s heroic archetypes. TNG import Colm Meaney, as Chief Miles O’Brien, quickly established a chemistry with UK thesp Siddig El Fadil (later Alexander Siddig), aka Dr Julian Bashir, while Terry Farrell, as ancient Trill Lieutenant Jadzia Dax, provided the leopard spots. Early plans to lumber the Dutch former model with a prosthetic forehead were thankfully scrapped.Of course, none of the above could compete with a series stealing turn by Armin Shimerman, as the duplicitous Ferengi bar owner Quark.DS9 may have been a conceptual risk, but it hit the ground running. The two-hour pilot Emissary was highest-rated series premiere in US syndication history at the time, bagging an 18.8 per cent audience share. Its first season became a fixture in the syndication charts, pulling a valuable male demographic.

Angetrieben wird das Xperia M5 von dem mit einer Taktfrequenz von bis zu 2,0 Gigahertz werkelnden Octa-Core-Prozessor Mediatek Helio X10, dem satte drei Gigabyte RAM zur Seite stehen. Der interne Speicher ist mit 16 Gigabyte ausreichend groß dimensioniert, lässt sich aber via microSDXC-Karten noch zusätzlich erweitern.Xperia M5: Angetrieben von dem Mediatek Helio X10 Prozessor und 3 Gigabyte RAM bietet das wasserdichte Android 5.0 Lollipop Gerät flotte Performance. Sony will das Xperia C5 Ultra und das Xperia M5 ab Mitte August „in ausgewählten Schwellenländern" als Single- und Dual-SIM-Version anbieten. Ob beziehungsweise wann die Smartphones auch in Deutschland erhältlich sein werden, ist im Augenblick leider noch unklar. Auch Preisinformationen liegen derzeit nicht vor.Nach dem erfolgreichen Launch von Windows 10 für PCs schwenkt der Fokus der Gerüchteküche noch mehr denn je zuvor auf Microsofts Pläne für den Mobilgerätemarkt um, sprich Windows 10 Mobile und dazugehörige Smartphones. In den vergangenen Wochen sind bereits detaillierte Informationen über zwei kommende Flaggschiffe der Lumia-Familie durchgesickerte, die unter dem Codenamen Talkman und Cityman seit Monaten immer wieder auf Blogs Erwähnung finden. Außerdem wurden erste Einzelheiten zu einem Nachfolger für das Lumia 830 veröffentlicht. Vor dem Hintergrund all dieser Infos will NokiaPowerUser jetzt noch einmal ganz frische Details zu diesen Geräten von einer vertrauenswürdigen Quelle erhalten haben.

Zunächst einmal ist wichtig zu erwähnen, dass sich Microsoft dem Bericht nach nun doch dagegen entschieden hat, bei der Benennung seiner kommenden Lumia-Smartphones eine Generation zu überspringen. Die beiden kommenden Flaggschiffe sollen also nicht wie zuletzt eindringlich von verschiedenen Publikationen suggeriert Lumia 950 und Lumia 950 XL heißen, sondern genau wie ursprünglich vermutet Lumia 940 und Lumia 940 XL.Des Weiteren bestätigt der neue Bericht abermals die Existenz eines Nachfolgers für das Lumia 830. Diese somit vermutlich Lumia 840 genannte Modell soll aber nicht zusammen mit den zwei neuen Flaggschiffen im Herbst 2015 auf den Markt kommen, sondern erst etwas später zum Ende des Jahres. Ob die drei Smartphones dennoch zur selben Zeit vorgestellt werden, bleibt abzuwarten. Alle werden aber jedenfalls laut den Angaben von NokiaPowerUser keine kapazitiven Bedienelemente mehr unter dem Display besitzen, sondern nur mit On-Screen-Tasten aufwarten.

Gemäß bisheriger Gerüchte wird es sich beim Lumia 840 um ein Mittelklassegerät handeln, das dem neuen Motorola Moto G (2015) aus dem Android-Lager in vielerlei Hinsicht sehr ähnlich sein sollte. Wirklich spruchreif ist diesbezüglich aber noch nichts. Die mehrfach durchgesickerten Spezifikationen von Lumia 940 und Lumia 940 XL zeichnen hingegen bereits ein sehr eindeutiges Bild von zwei modernen Premium-Smarpthones mit High-End-Ausstattung.Trotz der umfangreichen und häufigen Leaks in den letzten Tagen und Woche ist sich die Gerüchteküche nach wie vor nicht ganz schlüssig darüber, wann Microsoft diese neuen Smartphones offiziell der Weltöffentlichkeit präsentieren möchte. Ein guter Tipp bleibt natürlich die IFA 2015 in Berlin Anfang September. Zuletzt war allerdings auch zu hören, dass der Redmonder Softwareriese die offizielle Präsentation seiner neuen Smartphone-Line-up und von Windows 10 Mobile erst im Oktober auf einem speziell dafür angesetzten Event abhalten möchte.

Unter dem Codenamen Lavender geistert seit längerem ein neues Sony-Smartphone mit nahezu randlosem Display durch die Gerüchteküche. Bislang konnte von Insidern nicht endgültig aufgeklärt werden wie das Gerät bei seiner Vorstellung heißen wird, doch der beste Tipp ist vermutlich Xperia C5 Ultra. Nachdem Spekulationen um die Vorstellung dieses neuen Xperia-Modells im Rahmen der IFA 2015 im September, teasert Sonys Mobilgerätesparte jetzt eine Produktpräsentation für kommenden Montag an.Mit zwei Twitter-Posts rührt Sony schon mal kräftig die Werbetrommel für eine Smartphone-Ankündigung am 3. August. In einem der Posts heißt es „something golden is sparkling on the horizon", was zu Deutsch so viel heißt wie "ein goldener Schimmer glitzert am Horizont". Das kann so interpretiert werden, dass es das kommende Smartphone diesmal auch in einer für die Xperia-Reihe brandneuen, goldenen Farbvariante geben wird. Sonys zweiter Teaser auf Twitter bezieht sich offenbar auf die Kamera-Fähigkeiten des neuen Modells. Das Unternehmen schreibt nämlich „focus closely now, a new way to capture split-second photos is coming". Daraus lässt sich im Grund nur schließen, dass das Smartphone Aufnahmen mit extrem kurzer Auslösezeit ermöglichen wird. Davon abgesehen setzt Sony unter den Satz das Bild eines Wassertropfens - ebenfalls vielsagend in der Farbe Gold.

Trotz der Teaser ist noch nicht wirklich klar, ob Sony das vermeintliche Xperia C5 Ultra am Montag nur vorstellen oder auch direkt auf den Markt bringen wird. Gut vorstellbar ist aber, dass der globale Marktstart erst Anfang September zur IFA in Berlin erfolgen wird.Bezüglich der Ausstattungsmerkmale des neuen Sony-Smartphones gibt es keine neuen Erkenntnisse. Den aktuell im Netz kursieren Infos nach wird das Gerät ein 5,5 Zoll großes Full-HD-Display, LTE-Unterstützung und Android 5.1 Lollipop bieten. Darüber hinaus soll es von dem 64-Bit-fähigen Octa-Core-Prozessor MT6572 von Mediatek angetrieben werden und über 2 Gigabyte RAM, 16 Gigabyte internen Flash-Speicher, einen microSD-Kartenslot sowie eine 13-Megapixel-Hauptkamera verfügen.

Apples Set-Top-Box Apple TV hat seit 2012 kein bedeutendes Hardware-Update mehr erhalten. Nun sieht es aber ganz so aus als käme im September endlich ein neues Modell auf den Markt. Wie BuzzFeed News informiert, plant Apple in jenem Monat die Vorstellung eines komplett überarbeiteten Apple TV, und das sehr wahrscheinlich während desselben Events, auf dem auch die neuen iPhones enthüllt werden.Das neue Apple TV Modell soll einige signifikante Neuerungen mitbringen. Zu diesen gehören BuzzFeed News nach unter anderem ein eigens für das Wohnzimmererlebnis konzipierter App Store, intelligente Sprachsteuerung dank Siri-Integration und eine neuartige Fernbedienung mit Touchpad. Die Set-Top-Box an sich soll noch etwas kompakter sein und natürlich auch mit einer leistungsfähigeren Hardware aufwarten als das aktuelle Modell.

Wichtig zu erwähnen ist, dass die genannten vermeintlichen Features des neuen Apple TV bereits seit ein paar Monaten im Netz kursierten. BuzzFeed News selbst war es, die über diese im vergangenen Frühjahr berichtete. Damit einher ging die Meldung, Apple werde die rundum erneuerte Set-Top-Box im Rahmen der WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference) Anfang Juni präsentieren. Offenbar wurden derlei Pläne aber von dem kalifornischen Unternehmen noch relativ kurzfristig verworfen und der Vorstellungstermin nach hinten verlegt. Den neusten Informationen nach soll Apple die zusätzliche Entwicklungszeit genutzt haben, an dem Gerät noch einmal letztes Feintuning vorzunehmen. Jetzt scheint alles bereit für die Ankündigung.Falls die Angaben der US-Publikation korrekt sind - und wir sehen keinen Grund, daran zu zweifeln - dürfte das vermutete September-Event auch 2015 wieder ein sehr bedeutendes für Apple werden. Im vergangenen Jahr hatte das Unternehmen im September neue iPhones und die Apple Watch enthüllt. Zusätzlich zum neuen Apple TV mit eigenem App Store wird in diesem Jahr die Vorstellung von iPhone 6s und 6s Plus erwartet. Die beiden neuen iPhone-Topmodelle sollen in Form und Größe zu iPhone 6 und iPhone 6 Plus identisch sein, allerdings mit deutlich aufgewerteter Hardware und einem Force Touch Display aufwarten.
